Because I’m relatively tall (6’2”), our four daughters have always looked up to me! (Pun intended!) With that in mind, I titled my second children’s book, My Dad and Other Giants.

It seems that dads in our society today get little respect, love, or even attention. Unfortunately, too many kids in our society also grow up without a dad or many other figures which kids can respect and emulate. Good dads have a huge impact on their kids and how they grow up. My Dad and Other Giants seeks to remedy the situation. Maddy, the little girl in the story, not only loves and respects her dad, but she also learns about other people she can love and respect, the type of people which all kids should learn to appreciate. Throughout the book, she meets some of her dad’s friends who are “giants”, and other people in her life who can be “looked up to”.

Just as my first book, Flying Far, is intended to generate conversations about where children might like to “fly”, My Dad and Other Giants should generate conversations about who your child, grandchild, niece, or nephew might respect, love, and appreciate. That can be a fun and eye-opening experience for both of you!

The illustrator of the book, Karyn Lukasek, is a former student of mine and the daughter of a former colleague of mine. She is not only a talented illustrator, but the mom of a bunch of little kids just like Maddy. She knows how “little people” think, and what kind of children’s books they like!
